Step 1:
Prepare for Installation:
- Check System Requirements:
- Ensure your hardware meets the minimum requirements for the Windows Server version you want to install. Check for adequate CPU, RAM, and storage.
- Download the Windows Server ISO:
- Obtain the official Windows Server installation media from Microsoft’s website.
- Create a Bootable USB/DVD:
- Use tools like Rufus or the Windows Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB or DVD from the ISO file.
Step 2:
Boot from Installation Media
- Insert the bootable USB or DVD into the target machine.
- Restart the computer and access the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing keys like

during boot). - Set the boot priority to USB or DVD as the primary boot device.
- Save changes and exit BIOS/UEFI. The system will now boot into the Windows Server installation media.
Step 3:
Start the Installation
- Select your language, time format, and keyboard input preferences, then click Next.
- Click Install Now to begin the setup process.
Step 4:
Choose Server Edition
- Select the Windows Server edition you wish to install (e.g., Standard, Datacenter, Core, or GUI version).
- Click Next to continue.
Step 5:
Accept the License Terms
- Read the license agreement, check the box to accept the terms, and click Next.
Step 6:
Select Installation Type
- Choose Custom: Install Windows only (advanced) if you are performing a clean installation.
- Alternatively, select Upgrade if you are upgrading an existing server.
Step 7:
Partition the Disk
- Select the hard drive where you want to install the operating system.
- If necessary, create or format partitions using the options provided.
- Click Next to start the installation process.
Step 8:
Installation Process
- The system will copy files, install features, and complete the setup.
- This process may take several minutes. The system will restart automatically once installation is complete.
Step 9:
Configure Initial Settings
- Create a strong Administrator password when prompted.
- Log in using the Administrator account and password.
Step 10:
Finalize Setup
- Activate Windows Server: Enter your product key if not done during installation.
- Configure network settings, such as assigning a static IP address.
- Install necessary updates through Windows Update.
- Set up roles and features using the Server Manager (e.g., Active Directory, DNS, or file services).
