Step-by-Step guide to installing a Windows Server operating system

 Step 1: 


Prepare for Installation:

  1. Check System Requirements:
    • Ensure your hardware meets the minimum requirements for the Windows Server version you want to install. Check for adequate CPU, RAM, and storage.
  2. Download the Windows Server ISO:
    • Obtain the official Windows Server installation media from Microsoft’s website.
  3. Create a Bootable USB/DVD:
    • Use tools like Rufus or the Windows Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB or DVD from the ISO file.





Step 2: 

Boot from Installation Media
  1. Insert the bootable USB or DVD into the target machine.
  2. Restart the computer and access the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing keys like F2, F12, Del, or Esc during boot).
  3. Set the boot priority to USB or DVD as the primary boot device.
  4. Save changes and exit BIOS/UEFI. The system will now boot into the Windows Server installation media.






Step 3:

 Start the Installation
  1. Select your language, time format, and keyboard input preferences, then click Next.
  2. Click Install Now to begin the setup process.






Step 4: 
Choose Server Edition
  1. Select the Windows Server edition you wish to install (e.g., Standard, Datacenter, Core, or GUI version).
  2. Click Next to continue.






Step 5:

 Accept the License Terms
  1. Read the license agreement, check the box to accept the terms, and click Next.


Step 6: 

Select Installation Type

  1. Choose Custom: Install Windows only (advanced) if you are performing a clean installation.
  2. Alternatively, select Upgrade if you are upgrading an existing server.


Step 7: 

Partition the Disk

  1. Select the hard drive where you want to install the operating system.
  2. If necessary, create or format partitions using the options provided.
  3. Click Next to start the installation process.







Step 8:

 Installation Process

  1. The system will copy files, install features, and complete the setup.
  2. This process may take several minutes. The system will restart automatically once installation is complete.


Step 9: 

Configure Initial Settings

  1. Create a strong Administrator password when prompted.
  2. Log in using the Administrator account and password.








Step 10: 


Finalize Setup

  1. Activate Windows Server: Enter your product key if not done during installation.
  2. Configure network settings, such as assigning a static IP address.
  3. Install necessary updates through Windows Update.
  4. Set up roles and features using the Server Manager (e.g., Active Directory, DNS, or file services).
